HR Manager

Reporting to the Chief Operation Officer, the HR Manager at West Linn Paper Company is responsible for providing leadership and generalist support for the mill. Key areas of focus include recruitment, benefits, compliance, safety, training, recordkeeping, payroll and employee development.

We are seeking an experienced and versatile HR Manager who will help champion these values. The HR Manager is an integral part of our production leadership team and will be expected to actively participate in developing and evaluating our production processes, strategies, and goals.  

Summary of Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with production leadership to drive employee engagement in the areas of safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory activities such as EEO, OSHA/Safety, Worker's Compensation, Unemployment, FMLA/OFLA and FLSA. 
  • Manage recruitment, including working with outside agencies and educational institutions involved in training, development and programs in manufacturing and skilled trades.
  • Ensure HR policies, processes, systems, communication and reporting activities are in place and are aligned with the mill’s goals.  
  • Effectively manage employee relations and employee performance issues, including conducting investigations as needed and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Manage employee benefits, including working with vendors and managing the annual Open Enrollment process.
  • In partnership with payroll and accounting, manage HRMS, timekeeping and payroll systems.
  • In partnership with department leadership, identify training needs (safety, compliance, leadership).
  • Monitor and report on key HR and safety data, developing and revising tools as needed to track progress to goals.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years working in a manufacturing/production focused role.
  • A solid understanding of applicable State and Federal HR and Safety laws and regulations.   
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, flexible and adaptable.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Payroll experience and experience implementing a new payroll/HRMS system a plus.

Sales & Marketing Coordinator


West Linn Paper Company is seeking a Sales & Marketing Coordinator to support our Sales and Marketing team (President of Sales and Marketing, Director of Marketing and 11 remote Sales Managers). This position is based in West Linn, Oregon. We are looking for candidates who are interested in innovative thinking and personal accountability in a results driven environment.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Sales & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the collection, analysis and reporting of sales related data to increase overall sales productivity. The development and tracking of key performance indicators will be critical to enhance the understanding of the business and to improve decision-making.

The Sales & Marketing Coordinator will create standard and custom reports, conduct analysis and provide support for internal sales group.  The individual in this role will be expected to develop standardized tools, methodologies and business processes aimed at improving operational efficiency. They will also be responsible for supporting all marketing functions including, but not limited to: collateral development, promotions, direct mail and email campaigns, web site maintenance and development, social media efforts and database & CRM management.

The individual selected for this position must have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and quickly learn products and paper & printing industry specific terms. They must be able to work independently, patiently and proactively with a wide variety of individuals to find creative solutions in a very time sensitive way, and must be effective working in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities for this job include:

  • Work with outside systems contractors to manage automation and types of reports needed and proactively improve reporting and data available to sales team – extensive knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Sales Force is essential along with a working knowledge to review and analyze sales data.
  • Collect, evaluate and report data in order to increase sales productivity, measure performance and make recommendations on business strategy.
  • Coordinate and manage the complete sales reporting and forecasting process for sales group and maintain shipment information to track according to plan.
  • Develop and distribute internal month-end reporting for the sales group and management.
  • Provide industry analysts with company shipment information for annual surveys.
  • Generate a monthly market report evaluating utilizing industry information.
  • Generate ad hoc reporting and presentations for Sales, Marketing, Business Planning and Product Management.
  • Manage all industry related reporting contracts and agreements – rebates and inventory programs.
  • Create and maintain company and sales presentations – knowledge of PowerPoint and online presentation tools is essential.
  • Be a liaison between the sales group and internal departments to help expedite and facilitate any support issues.
  • Effectively maintain and develop strong relationships with outside sales group and customers.
  • Support and implement a variety of marketing projects with the Director of Marketing.


  • Ability to listen to sales’ and marketing needs and work as an internal advocate to provide responsive and personalized service in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and creative problem solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to take on a wide variety of projects.
  • Demonstrate excellent computer skills with strong experience with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, plus ability to work with systems customized to the paper industry for reporting and tracking purposes.
  • Extensive experience with Excel and Sales Force along with experience migrating data to cloud based dashboards and forms and develop relational databases and the ability to create stored procedures.
  • Full understanding of pricing, financial terms & accounting and have great attention to detail with regard to numbers and basic number conversions. 
  • 2-5 years of previous experience working in sales or marketing position preferably within the manufacturing industry. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, sales or accounting related field preferred
  • Availability to work set office hours and schedule with some flexibility to work extended hours as needed or required.

Production Associate – Tech 2

West Linn Paper Company is seeking applicants for Tech 2 operating positions in continuous machine operations, raw material preparation, and finishing. Previous paper making experience is not required. We offer an innovative, technology-rich, lean organization built on a spirited history, well-regarded products, and a loyal customer base.  Summary of Key Requirements: 

- Excellent work history that includes at least 2 yrs consistent employment in the last 4 yrs, characterized by exceptional performance, reliability, good attendance and adherence to organizational policies and norms.

 -Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a production environment.

 -Able to perform frequent short-cycle repetitive tasks that require mental and physical stamina, and sensory alertness. 

- Proficient in math, reading, basic science and manufacturing principles to pass a rigorous battery of standardized pre-hire tests.

- Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, days and nights.

- Motivated to progress into higher level positions.

- Willingness to work on-call with short notice and overtime as needed.

- 18 years or older.

- High School Diploma or GED. 

- Excellent verifiable prior employment references.

 - Pass criminal, drug and Department of Motor Vehicles screening.

 * National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) a plus.

Additional Details:

We offer a competitive starting wage of $18.26/hr (this wage includes scheduled overtime), with potential unscheduled overtime, and eligibility for a Tech 3 increase after 90 days.
